  • Spanish simulnight project.

    Hi all,

We have begun a new project in x-plane.es to upgrade our spanish photoreal scenery with night textures thanks to Luca and his great simulnight program http://www.simultools.com/simulnight.html

For those of you who understand spanish, we're starting the project right now uploading textures and the post is here:
    http://www.x-plane.es/modules/smf/index ... pic=4611.0

We'll create a new LIT map to download these textures and a readme.txt in a few languages (mostly spanish, english, french and italian if possible) for the procedure to upgrade the sceneries.

Final weigth is still unknown but most of the folders are 1/3 of the initial size so night textures should be around 20-40 GB maximum.

We'll try to update from time to time in our international area (yeah, that one we almost empty right now xD)

    regards

    Alejandro

I don't like the result from simulnight.
When you look at it, it looks like the author of the tool is giving lights to buildings but in cities lights are mostly coming from the streets, not from the roofs. See my night picture of Paris as example:

I have other pictures from other cities and also small villages but they are not online. As they are slides I will have to scan them. The only other example available in my pictures is Rouen (normandy, west of Paris). It is not from the air but from a high point of view. It gives you a closer view to the light sources : lights in the streets, car lights, lights on facades and monuments like the cathedral on the right.

Yes, what the program actually does is just some actions on the edges of the entire picture. I'll try the advanced version tomorrow. This version has 4 types of lights depending of population so mountain areas may be way way darker than standar version.

You are right about what is supposed to bring light to a city or a road, but we are just doing this for those of us who want some light on photoreal sceneries at night.

If Luca improves the software, it'll be welcome. 8)

        Hello Bokepacha,

the concept is very interresting and i'll give it a thourough try ASAP. It seems to have its limitations for now, but it is a "young" product, i'm sure it'll get better with time.

Would it be imaginable (since it bases on scripting photoshop from what i gather) to have a Mac verion anytime soon ?

Does it also work on scenery based on .pol files generated by GMaps ?
