Hello everyone,
I have recently upgraded to X-Plane 12 and have been loving the enhanced visuals and features. However, I’m struggling with significant FPS drops, especially when using custom scenery or add-ons like weather plugins (e.g., ActiveSky or xEnviro). These performance issues are most noticeable during flights over dense urban areas or when approaching highly detailed airports.
Below is a brief overview of my system specs:
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X
GPU: RTX 3070
RAM: RAM size 32GB
Monitor Resolution: 2560x1440
I run X-Plane on an SSD with ample free space and have ensured all drivers are up to date.
I have tried lowering some graphics settings, such as texture quality, anti-aliasing, and shadow detail. While this improves performance slightly, I still encounter frame drops, particularly during heavy AI traffic / bad weather conditions. Managing scenery order in the .ini file has helped a bit, but it’s not a complete solution.
To optimize performance without sacrificing too much visual quality, I’m seeking advice on the following:
Are there specific configurations that provide the best performance-to-visuals balance?
How can I identify and manage plugins that might be causing a performance bottleneck? Any tips on reducing the impact of large scenery files?
Is overclocking or any other hardware tweak worth considering? I’d also love to know if there are third-party MLOps tools or scripts you’ve found helpful for monitoring and optimizing X-Plane’s performance. I have checked https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php...able-fps-loss/ guide for reference but still need help.
If anyone has faced similar issues or has solutions to share, I’d greatly appreciate your insights. I’m particularly interested in hearing from users with setups similar to mine who frequently use add-ons and custom scenery.
Thanks in advance for your help! Looking forward to flying smoothly again.
