I asked Philipp if there was a way he could speed up the click/twist process which is so laborious when entering data into the new X-Plane GPS.
I was pleasantly surprised to receive this reply:

You can use several tricks to speed up the input process on the new GPS.
You can hold down the mouse button while clicking in the popup, which causes click acceleration to kick in after two seconds.
Then, you can use the mouse wheel over the button to scroll quickly through characters by scrolling up and down.
