En ce qui concerne Vulkan c'est un peu la suite, enfin c'est plutôt Mantle qui est venu en premier, de ce qui avait été fait avec openGL : GDC 2014 Approaching zero driver overhead, le but étant de limiter les appels à openGL qui sont un bottleneck (API bound). Vulkan est un outil fantastique mais qui vient avec un prix : il faut tout gérer soi-même et faire du Vulkan lent est très facile, comme faire du multi-core lent.

Ça ne me dérange pas de passer pour un rigolo en tentant d’optimiser mes objets 3D et textures. C’est un domaine où j’ai toute liberté pour faire ce que j’estime nécessaire. Quant à l’optimisation de X-Plane, à part prendre le fauteuil de Ben, tu dois juste constater les dégâts. Ce doit être frustrant.Créations X-Plane :

Par exemple, le concept utilisé pour la gestion des fichiers joystick est truffé de lourdeurs épouvantables, tant en contenu qu'en terme de vitesse de chargement (où x-plane ne brille pas!). Il aurait été difficile de concevoir pire.
Je leur ai détaillé une méthode ultra simple qui éliminerait le chargement de centaines de fichiers textes à interpréter. Elle est très facile à implémenter (quelques minutes + 1 paire d'heures pour la mise en conformité des fichiers existants) mais rien n'y fait : elle ne sera vraisemblablement pas utilisée...

Ce soir, un test de création d'une texture de fibre de carbone en procédurale avec substance Designer.
Il y a encore du travail à faire mais c'est un vrai plaisir à utiliser pour texturer des objets car il est possible d'exposer toutes sortes de paramètres comme la base color, l'intensité de la normal map, le roughness, la taille...
Faire son premier graphe sur Substance Designer nécessite cependant un peu de pratique.
J'ai hâte de tester ce truc dans X-Plane.

Oui, il y a bien un projet X-Plane en cours mais je n’en dirais rien pour le moment sans l’accord des autres personnes concernées. En tout cas, cela sera pour moi l’occasion de mettre en application ce que j’ai appris depuis un an et demi sur le Physically based rendering ou PBR…
qui ne consiste pas uniquement “à passer au Mirror” le fuselage de nos avions !
Daniel_L, le dernière fois que j'ai fais une photographie publicitaire en studio, c'était avec une chambre 4 X 5".
